What We Had Been Searching For

Four years after first believing into Christ, the Lord separated us from all churches.  This had come about as a result of my praying, "Lord, I think that you do not want me to join any church."  The divine answer to my prayer was, "The church of the Living God is not made of wood nor stone."  Although not fully understanding why, we obeyed.

Over the next five years, we began to see more about the church in the Bible.  My questioning prayer about the church during this time was, "Lord, where is it?"  The Lord's answer was simply, "Search for it and you will find it."  Obediently, we visited a number of places.  My usual remark after a visit to one of these places was either, "This can't be it" or, "I have been here before."

Toward the end of those five years, however, a book by Watchman Nee was loaned to us.  It was titled "The Normal Christian Church Life."  To me, reading that book was like adding gasoline to a live fire!  The fire within me began to burn much brighter than before.  Shortly after, we visited a Christian book store searching for more Watchman Nee books.  Upon finding only one book that mentioned his name (but not as the author), we bought it and read it.  The book turned out to be a sharp criticism of Watchman Nee and Witness Lee.  After reading it, my remark was, "Author of this book, you are the one in error, not these men."  That book did give me another name to look for however. That name was Witness Lee.

Soon afterward, we learned that Witness Lee lived in Los Angeles, California.  Through a telephone call we learned about the church in Denver, Colorado.  This was followed by a visit to one of their meetings.  After that first meeting with the church in Denver, we knew that we had found what we had been searching for.
